Personality:
Often to always seen with a smile, Itami is person who is really hard to read. Seemingly always happy and never serious, this guy doesn't seem to have any problems in life or whatsoever. Good natured, carefree and loves spoiling and teasing people he knows, love and/or likes-- even if they just met for the first time. His love for children seems a bit too much though.

History:
Itami Jiko's real given name is Kyousuke Hirono and is born in a rich family in a town in Edo. His father, Kosuke Hirono is a well established painter while her late mother, Minami Takezawa was a theatre performer and singer. Minami Takezawa died 2 years after he was born due to a local disease. Itami also has an older sister who is named after their mother, Minami Hirono. His sister is 10 years older than him and had followed their mother's footsteps and worked as a theater performer and singer. Because of his family's direction to the arts, Itami also learned how to perform, sing and dance. But in the long run, he stopped and continued studying as a scholar and linguist.

Family Fortune
Itami's family owns most of the livelihood coming around the town they lived in, making their family known through out the towns people and called as the town masters. However, even with the grand social and economic status, Itami and his family doesn't boast about it and is often seen laying low and mingling with the other townspeople normally. But, even on how they go about around the town, the townsfolk still calls them with honorifics( e.g. "-sama".). Itami, for once, is called Obocchama all throughout the town.

The Hollow Eye Socket and the Name Itami Jiko
Itami was born with an eye illness that makes his eye sight degrade as time passes. He got this when his mother was conceiving him, she got sick and it somehow affect Itami when he was born. However, only his right eye was affected by it. He ignored the sickness and strived on forward, but never telling anyone that he despised his position and his situation-- because he doesn't want to bother his father who wasn't really able to recover completely to the lost of his mother and his sister.

Being born in a rich family, Itami was engaged to a woman named, Kana Yagami at age 14. Kana was a year older than Itami and wasn't really that sociable to him. However, Itami respected her and was really nice to her despite the fact that she keeps on ignoring Itami's endeavors on making their relationship better, and much true. Itami liked Kana, and didn't want to give in to Kana's coldness towards him.

One day, Itami was dumbfounded when Kana told him that she was pregnant, when he had never touched her-- that Kana had another man, and that the only reason that she kept closed to him was because of his family's wealth. What saddened Itami the most is the last thing she said, that she doesn't want to have any relations with a man who has a disability such as him. She left, and Itami's hate on his situation grew and ended up taking off his disability literally by pulling out his eyeball.

A few weeks later, Itami started using the alias 'Itami Jiko', Itami meaning 'ain' and Jiko meaning 'accident(s)' in all his books and work.

The Little Princess and the Eyeball Collection
After the shock with the issue with Kana, Itami decided to travel around and try to take off his mind off the trivial matters. On one of his travels, in a little town down south, he found a little girl about the age of 10, being bullied by a group of children older than her. He caught glimpse of the how the girl gripped on the bundle of clothes she was holding, and the sword she was hiding in them. Just before she was about to pull the sword out and attack, Itami pulled her by her collar and scared the children away by pulling his bandages off to show the children his hollow eye socket. They ran away and Itami turned to the little girl and smiled, only to be intrigued by the fierce expression she had given him-- telling him "Let me go. Why did you stop me. I didn't ask you to help me."

The child seem to have clicked his interest and he started following her around, feeding her and offering her to come with his to his house. With a bit more persuasion, he was able to make that child whose name is Aoki Yatsuka to come with him to his home. His sister was delighted when he brought Aoki to his house and was quickly accepted to his family. Not long after, even with the reputation of destroying a lot of items in town, the townsfolk started addressing Aoki as Ojou, as part of the town's masters' family. Itami, then started calling her 'Hime' or princess-- denoting her as a younger sister and his adopted daughter.

When Aoki learned about Itami's incident with Kana, she tried cheering Itami up by taking people's eyes off and giving it to him as a gift, thinking that it could replace his bad eye and it'll be better. Itami was moved by Aoki's action but didn't like that she was hurting people, so he told her to stop and paid for the expenses and damages that Aoki caused.

The Yellow Scarf
After that incident, Aoki made a promise to never kill anyone ever again and take eyeballs. And then, she gave Itami a part of her obi, and said it to be a sign of that promise. But she told him that it was a scarf instead of telling the whole truth about the her haori, the obi and her past. But Itami found out about it one day, with her telling it to him anyway. (lol Aoki)

From that day on, Itami just lets Aoki do as she pleases, unless she is about to break her promise.

Education and Fighting Style
Itami is very well educated, even if it his looks doesn't give it away. He's a writer and a scholar in his town and works as a school teacher every know and then during his free time. But after he took in Aoki, he got more busy into educating her, as well as teaching her other eastern and western languages that he had learned (However, Aoki only picked up English and Filipino).

As a son of performers, he was also train into martial arts and has a fairly build-up body. He's fairly good with boxing, kick boxing and had mastered Aiki jijutsu at the age of 18. Though he was also brought about in using swords and bladed weapons, he prefers using his fists to fight. He is very nimble, but due to his vision impairment, he has trouble measuring up distances.

Jiji and The Lost Italian Girl
In one of the troubles Aoki stirred up in another town, Itami found a girl, 18 of age, indebted to a restaurant for reasons that she was tricked by the person who was supposedly going to treat her. Finding the situation sad, Itami paid for the girl's debt and treated the girl for lunch, since they were about to have lunch anyway as well. After discovering that the girl was italian, lost and couldn't speak Japanese-- Itami decide to bring here with them. Since language barrier wasn't really a problem with him, since he was knowledgeable. He's a linguist, after all.

The girl was named Furor Jotani, and gave the nickname 'Jiji' to Itami. Itami agreed to teach her Japanese, but in the long run something else progressed which lead up to some romantic development.
Furor kissed Itami in one of their study sessions… and well, you know. It progressed to something more than that.

Random Facts
When Itami was younger, about at the age of 10, he was learning how to do some field work to be able to help on maintaining their family's fields and farms. But an unexpected happening occurred and he accidentally hacked off half of his right ring finger off. The doctors wasn't able to bring it back together, thus making Itami stop learning and playing the flute.

Itami is really accident prone when he was young. Besides the finger severing accident, Itami also had cuts and burns from all over his body. The biggest scar (burn mark)he had over his right chest. But the clumsy streak declined as he grew older.

The only reason why Itami covers his hollow eye socket is because he doesn't want to scare children away. But when he's at home, he doesn't really cover it much. Because of Aoki, he thinks that it's more of a strength now than a disability.

Itami has a wide-range of connections in every town. This is why they never get arrested no matter how much trouble Aoki stirs up in any place.
